TL - Time and Labor & Absence Management Terminology
This document contains a list of Time and Labor & Absence Management terms along with their definitions.
Employee ID (EmplID) – A unique 8 digit (Ex: 00890012) employee number that identifies him/her within the Time and Labor/Absence system. UWS = Person ID.
Group ID – The Time and Labor/Absence system groups employees from the same work unit so that a manager can find all of his or her employees using a GroupID. Without a GroupID a manager would need to look up and approve time and leave for each employee individually using the Employee ID.
Employee Self Service (ESS) – ESS is an acronym for Employee Self Service. Students and employees will enter time worked via ESS.
Manager Self Service (MSS) – MSS is an acronym for Manager Self Service. Supervisors will review and approve time entered via MSS.
Take – Take is the HRS term for all the different types of absence, i.e. Vacation, Sick, etc.
Punch Exception – This is the timesheet most non-exempt University Staff Ongoing employees will use. The employees who use this timesheet will have an assigned schedule with "in" and "out" punches.
Elapsed Exception – This is the timesheet most exempt University Staff Ongoing employees will use. The employees who use this timesheet will have an assigned schedule with the sum of their hours worked.
Elapsed Positive – This is the timesheet most Faculty/Academic Staff/Limited Appointment (FA/AS/LI) hourly employees will use. There is no assigned schedule and employees will enter their total sum of hours worked.
Punch Positive – This is the timesheet most Student Help and University Staff Temporary Employment (TE) employees will use. There is no assigned schedule and employees enter hours including all "in" and "out" punches.
Time Reporting Codes (TRC) – TRC is an acronym for Time Reporting Codes. TRCs indicate the different types of circumstances an employee may work. For example: depending upon the employee, if an employee had Call Back Duty on Saturday, then he/she would have to choose an option from the TRC drop down menu to indicate those hours worked.
Payable Time – Payable time is time an employee's time that has been submitted and is ready for approval and further processing.
Time Administration Process (TA) – Time Administration is an HRS process that runs regularly and checks for time entry submissions, determines the rules to be applied, and produces the output of Payable Time.
