Learn@UW - Unable to Open Gradebook in Course

If you are unable to open the gradebook in a course, the gradebook may be very large, complex, or have duplicate columns. If a Grade Item is set to be worth zero points ( Max Points = 0 ), the gradebook will also be inaccessible.

This could cause an Internal Server (500) Error to be triggered, especially when selecting the Grades tool opens the gradebook in the 'Enter Grades' interface.

If you experience this problem, you may try using the following 'back door' to open the gradebook in the 'Manage Grades' interface.  Navigate to the following URL:

https://{instance}.courses.wisconsin.edu/d2l/lms/grades/admin/manage/gradeslist.d2l?ou={course offering ou#}

where
{instance} is the campus code (for example, uwmad for UW-Madison)
{course offering ou#} is the ou# of the course offering (for example, 123456)

The complete URL for the above example would be

https://uwmad.courses.wisconsin.edu/d2l/lms/grades/admin/manage/gradeslist.d2l?ou=123456

You must be logged on to D2L and have access to the course offering or the 'back door' is 'locked'.

This method of getting to 'Manage Grades' can be used if the normal Grades link is set to start at the 'Enter Grades' interface and the gradebook cannot be opened (you receive a 500 error). From the 'Manage Grades' interface you can delete duplicate columns or delete Grade Items that are worth zero points which have Max Points = 0.
