Voice Mail (Centrex) - Transferring a Caller (or a Fax if enabled) to Voice Mail
Calls can be manually transferred directly to an individual voice mailbox without ringing the phone. If you get a fax call you can either follow these instructions or hang up, fax machines are usually setup to try again a few moments later.
Transferring a Call (or a Fax if enabled)
With the caller on the line, press flash or switch-hook or transfer button.
- Dial 5-6600.
- When the voice mail system answers, enter the 7 digit mailbox number.
- You should hear the beginning of the greeting for that mailbox.
- If you are using an ISDN phone, press TRANSFER again or
- Quickly hang up, so the caller hears as much of the greeting as possible.
NOTE: You are allowed 3 attempts at entering a valid voice mailbox number before the system disconnects.
Much of campus has moved to Cisco VoIP. Please do not transfer to a mailbox unless you know that the other user is still on Centrex.
