Voice Mail - (Press 0) Operator Escape

The press 0 (zero) voice mail feature allows callers to 'escape' out of voice mail and be transferred to another number. Note: the number does not need to be a Centrex number, e.g., cell number. Long distance numbers are not supported.

When this feature is enabled on a mailbox, callers can press 0 at any time when the greeting is playing to be transferred to a phone number designated by the mailbox owner. This feature is most often used to provide callers, who need immediate assistance, the option to transfer to a person who can help them rather than leaving a voice mail message.

To enable or change the destination phone number, do the following:

  • Log into your Web PhoneManager.
  • Select Personal Settings
  • Click on the Phone Numbers tab
  • At the bottom of the screen, look for the "Personal Operator" designation.
  • In the blank field, enter the phone number that you want your callers to be transferred to.
  • Click OK

Once the feature is activated, it is up to the mailbox owner to include a statement in their voice mail greeting that informs callers to press "0" for immediate assistance. None of the system prompts will inform callers that the escape feature is available.

The operator escape feature will work even if the mailbox owner doesn't mention it in their voice mail greeting.
