Mainframe - Obtaining Authorization

To access the DoIT mainframe, a valid username (or three letter login) and password are required.

To request new mainframe access or to change existing access to the mainframe, users must complete and submit the Teleprocessing Network Authorization (3270) form located at https://it.wisc.edu/wp-content/uploads/3270Authorization.pdf.

This form requires the prospective user to list the mainframe transactions to which they will need access. The form must be signed by the prospective, his/her supervisor, and the department head. Please allows two weeks for form processing.

This form can be used to request access for new users as well as additional access for current users.

The DoIT Help Desk (264-HELP) can supply users with this form by campus mail, FAX or E-mail attachment. Alternatively, users can click on the above link and download the form, then print it out and send to DoIT.

DoIT Security group will notify the user when the authorization request has been processed and approved. Users will be supplied with a temporary password that must be changed immediately after initially signing on (see Mainframe - Changing your 3270 Password).

The username is generated by DoIT Security group based on the name of the user and previously assigned usernames, and is three characters in length and comprised of letters and numbers only.
