Learn@UW - Problems with User-Sharing Interface in ePortfolio

The user-sharing interface in the ePortfolio tool has some problems. We have reported the problems to D2L, and they acknowledged these are bugs or usability issues that need to be addressed.

The problems we have encountered are:
  1. Campuses with large numbers of users may possibly encounter an Internal Server (500) error when searching for users or groups to add to sharing.

  2. When searching for users, the search facility searches on the following fields:

    • first name
    • last name
    • username
    • email address

There is no facility to restrict the search to just one or some of these fields.

  3. There is no 'Search' button to initiate the search.  The search is initiated immediately after typing in characters.  This means that when the Search interface is opened, a search is automatically done on an empty search string which, if searching for users, brings up all users enrolled in the organization.  This can be disconcerting.

  4. The instructions suggest you can search on courses, but that is not the case. Where you can "Add Users and Groups" the instructions say "Enter a user, group or course name to begin browsing." The implication is that one can search on course names to find sharing groups. In fact, you can only search on a course name if a sharing group already has been created for that course, and that group is available to the user searching.
