D2L - Using the Textbooks Link (UW-Madison)

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

The default learn@uw navbar features a "Textbooks" link under the Materials drop-down menu that can be used to view textbook information for a course. This document provides helpful information for instructors and course owners who want to ensure that the "Textbooks" link displays the course textbooks.

By default, the D2L Textbooks link will display a "No textbooks information available for display" message.

To ensure that the Textbooks link displays textbooks for your course:
  1. Enter the course's textbook information into My UW-Madison Faculty Center.
  2. In D2L, activate the course. If you don't want students see the course just yet, specify a start date on the activation screen. Otherwise, students can access the course immediately once you activate it.
    • Important! You're finished with the set-up steps, but the Textbooks link won't work immediately. The link should display the course textbook information the following day (an overnight process must run in order for the textbooks to show up in D2L).
For more information on supplying textbook information in Faculty Center, see the Office of the Registrar's Textbooks Information page.
