Mainframe - 'Specify disposition of log data sets' message in 3270

This document explains what needs to be done if a TSO user receives the message 'Specify disposition of log data sets'.

SYMPTOM

Someone who just starting use of TSO or someone who has never set the default, will get the message 'Specify disposition of log data sets' when they enter 'Z' to logoff TSO and will then have to enter an option to tell the system what to do with the log data set, print, delete and so on.

CAUSE

The ISPF Parms, Log and List Defaults, has not been set.

SOLUTION

  1. If you are on the Specify Disposition of Log Data Set screen, Press F3 to return to the Primary Option Menu screen.
  2. From TSO's ISPF/PDF Primary Option Menu
  3. Type 0.2 (zero point two), for ISPF Parms, Log and List Defaults.
  4. Press Enter
  5. Press the Tab key to get to the 1st Process Option and type D.
  6. Press the Tab key to get to the 2nd Process Option and type D.
  7. Press the Tab key to get to the 1st SYSOUT Class and type D.
  8. Press the Tab key to get to the 2nd SYSOUT Class and type D.

  10. Press Enter.
  11. Press F3
  12. Press Z, and you should be able to logoff without any extra steps.
