Connecting Remotely to CAE Linux Machines with SSVNC

Instructions for remotely connecting to Linux workstations graphically

-Step 1: Download and Install SSVNC
      -
The install files can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ssvnc/
      -
Download and install the files specific to your operating system
-If using a CAE lab machine, click start and search SSVNC

-Step 2: Run and Configure SSVNC
      -
After installation, open the program. A dialog box will appear:

      -
In the "VNC Host:Display" field enter "username@best-tux.cae.wisc.edu", replacing username with your CAE account name
      - Click the "Use SSH" radio button
      - Click Connect
      - Accept the best-tux host key, if prompted
      - Enter your CAE password

A window will open with a view of a CAE Linux workstation:

VNC Screen Size Chart

VNC sessions are fixed-size. To connect with a different screen size, you must add a VNC display code after the host name. Note that adding a non-default code may negatively affect response time and performance.

(example: connect to best-tux.cae.wisc.edu:73 for a 1280x1024 resolution and 24-bit color)
