Windows 7 from CAE
This document explains how a student in the college of engineering can download Windows 7.
The following guide will explain how students in the college of engineering can download Windows 7 through CAE. If you are not sure if you have a CAE account or what CAE is, then this guide is not relevant to you.
Before you begin you need to keep a few things in mind:
- This MUST be done on a Windows operating system.*
- The desired destination for the download must have at least 5 GB of free space.
- The file that is downloaded will be a .iso disc image. To use this, it should be burnt to a DVD. For help with burning, click HERE.
*If you are downloading Windows 7 to use on a Mac for either a virtual machine or for Boot Camp, you can go to the CAE computer lab, download the file, and burn it to a disc at one of those computers. You can also find a friend if you would prefer.
Step 1. Visit the CAE web page and click on the account management link.
Step 2. Select "Account Tools"
Step 3. Login into your CAE account.
Step 4. Click on the MSDN Academic Alliance Link
Step 5. Select Windows 7 on the Popular Software page.
Step 6. Select the proper download link and architecture by clicking Add To Cart. If you are downloading Windows 7 to run on bootcamp, you should select the 64-bit architecture. If you are not sure click HERE to find out.
Step 7: On the Cart summary page, click Check Out in the bottom right corner.
Step 8. Read over and agree to the License Terms & Conditions.
Step 9. On the Messages page, click continue.
Step 10. On the Order page, select proceed with order.
Step 11. On the receipt page, click the Download Options link to proceed with the download.
Step 12. In the new Download Options window, click on the software title.
Step 13. On the final download page, select start download to begin the process.
Clicking this link, will download a small .exe file that finishes the process. Once that file is downloaded, run the program. When you run the program, it will ask for a desired destination. You can make this destination on anywhere you would like, but the final folder must be titled Temp. (i.e. E:/Temp, C:/Users/Documents and Settings/UserName/My Documents/Temp). This download is large and can take quite some time, on a campus internet connection the download takes about 30 minutes. For help on burning a .iso image to a disc, click HERE.
