WiscList Custom - Administration

This document details how to view the members of your Custom list, transfer ownership of the list, delete the list, and add or remove the list's guest members and delegated administrators.

List Ownership

Every Custom List has exactly one owner. The owner of a custom list has the ability to view list members, add or remove guest members, add or remove delegated administrators, request deletion of the list(s) or transfer ownership of the list.

View List Members

List owners and delegated administrators can view the members of a custom list by following these instructions:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility: https://custom.lists.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/CustomUtility.cgi
  2. Click View Members.

Guest Members

Guest members are list members that are not automatically updated. For example: Your custom list is populated with all undergraduate computer science majors, but the dean of computer science would also like to receive any mailings sent to your list. To accommodate this request, you must add the dean as a guest member to your custom list.

Follow these instructions to ADD a guest member:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Manage Enabled Lists.

    Note: You may need to enable the list before proceeding.

  3. Select the list you'd like to work with, then click Add Guest Members.
  4. Enter the guest member's full name (last name, first name) and email address. You can add multiple members on this step.

    Note: If you'd like to grant your guest the ability to post messages to the list, you must check the box labeled OK to Send.

  5. Click Add.

Follow these instructions to REMOVE a guest member:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Manage Enabled Lists.

    Note: You may need to enable the list before proceeding.

  3. Select the list you'd like to work with, then click Delete Guest Members.
  4. Check the Select box next to any guest member you'd like to remove.
  5. Click Delete the Checked Items.

Delegated Administrators

Delegated Administrators are list administrators that are not automatically updated. Delegated Administrators also have the ability to add/remove guest members and other delegated administrators. For example: Your custom list is populated with all undergraduate computer science majors, but the dean of computer science would like to receive any mailings sent to your list AND would like the ability to designate staff members of his choosing as list administrators. To accommodate this request, you must add the dean as a delegated administrator to your custom list.

Follow these instructions to ADD a delegated administrator:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Manage Enabled Lists.

    Note: You may need to enable the list before proceeding.

  3. Select the list you'd like to work with, then click Add DelAdm.
  4. Enter the full name (last name, first name), email address, and NetID of your delegated administrator.
  5. Select one or more custom lists the administrator will be added to, then click Submit.

Follow these instructions to REMOVE a delegated administrator:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Manage Enabled Lists.

    Note: You may need to enable the list before proceeding.

  3. Select the list you'd like to work with, then click Remove DelAdm.
  4. Enter the NetID of the delegated administrator you'd like to remove, then click Scan Lists For NetID.
  5. Select the delegated administrators you'd like to remove, then click Submit.

Transfer List Ownership

Follow these instructions to give someone else ownership of your custom list:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Change Ownership.
  3. Enter the full name (last name, first name), email address, and NetID of the new owner.
  4. Select the lists you'd like to transfer, then click the Submit.

Delete List

Follow these instructions to delete your custom list:

  1. Log in to the WiscList Custom Utility.
  2. Click Delete Lists.
  3. Select the lists you'd like to delete, then click Submit.
