Type of Application
Based on the type of project you propose to conduct, please select one of these options. Your selection will result in questions specific to the application type. Please review the descriptions of each type of application before making your selection. If you are still unsure of the type of application to select, please contact the IRB office.
Initial Review Application: The vast majority of applications submitted for review will fall into this category. This option indicate that you are conducting a new human subjects research project which will be reviewed by the IRB, and determined to be either Exempt, or reviewed as Expedited or by the Full IRB.
Training grant, umbrella grant or core grant: This application type should be selected when the sole purpose is to obtain approval of a grant for funding purpose. DO NOT select this application type if you are requesting approval for activities involving human subjects.
Protocol Development Activities (PDA): The Protocol Development Activities application should only be completed to facilitate the release of of federal funds from RSP, for research activities involving human subjects are planned in future but have not been finalized (e.g., the grant incorporates a planning stage). Only planning activities that do not involve human subjects can be covered by this internal administrative certification. Again, this certification is for RSP purposes only, and does not constitute human subjects research approval. In order to obtain approval to perform research activities involving human subjects, a separate Initial Review application will be required. DO NOT select this application type if you are requesting approval for activities involving human subjects within the next six months.
**If your research will involve requesting an external IRB site serve as IRB of Record, you will need to start a Cede Application instead. You may do so by clicking on the "Start Arrow Application" button in the study team workspace, then select "Request to Cede IRB Review"
