Am I entitled to a refund if I withdraw from the semester/term?
The following section concerns refunds for students who withdraw from UW-Madison.
Will I receive a refund if I withdraw from the semester/term?
Students who withdraw during the first two weeks of the classes in the fall or spring semester will receive a 100% refund of fees. Students who withdraw during the third or fourth week of the fall or spring semester will receive a 50% refund. After the fourth week of the semester, students will not receive a refund of tuition. The refund schedule for summer varies with the length of the session and should be checked at Summer Key Deadlines on the Office of the Registrar's homepage. In general, the College of Letters & Science does not backdate a student's withdrawal request for the purpose of providing refunds if a student does not withdraw by the appropriate deadline in a given semester/term.
If an L&S undergraduate student can provide strong documentation of verifiable circumstances beyond his/her control that prevented him/her from withdrawing by the appropriate deadline, these may be grounds for an exception. Please understand that providing documentation is not a guarantee that a student's appeal will be granted. For more assistance, please contact L&S Academic Deans' Services.
