Academic Staff Promotion
This document contains links to policies and procedures & templates which will help you prepare a promotion request for academic staff employees.
A promotion is a natural career progression through which academic staff might be expected to progress in the area of specialty with successively greater experience, expertise, and responsibility in the particular position. The specific criteria for the prefix vary depending upon the function chosen. Promotional Criteria will help you determine when it's appropriate to promote.
When promoting, supervisors must submit 3 supporting documents to their department administrator:
1. Current duties worksheet This template can be used to help you collect current duties from the employee or supervisor. Prior to giving this template to supervisors, Administrators should complete the former duties section or provide a copy of the most recent job duties on file (typically PVL or last rate/title change). Duties are not required to change when promoting, however this is an opportunity to update if needed.
3. Justification for how employee has met criteria for promotion. L&S has templates available below which help supervisors prepare letters of justification for promotion:

Upon completion, supervisors should send CV, justification and updated duties to their department administrator for review and submission via the rate and title change system. Promotion requests will be reviewed by L&S HR after they've been entered in the system.
