Learn@UW - Student Claims to Have Submitted File to Dropbox Folder but No File Is Found

Occasionally, a student claims to have submitted a file to a Dropbox folder, although the file is not present in the folder.

We recommend you proceed as follows:

There's no submission, but student thought the file was submitted

  1. Check "User Progress" for the student. ( Refer to Learn@UW - Viewing Progress of your Students Enrolled in a Course. ) If a file was submitted but subsequently deleted, "User Progress" will still document the submission, displaying the date and time of the submission.

  2. If "User Progress" does not indicate a submission, ask your campus site administrator to check the System Error Log. If there are no errors pertaining to the student attempting to submit to the dropbox folder, the submission has not been made.

  3. It is possible that the student did not complete the submission process: for example, uploading a file without pressing the Submit button before navigating away from the Dropbox tool.

There's no submission, but student presents an email confirmation

  1. Note that a confirmation email message is not created until the file has actually been submitted.

  2. Check that the email message is for the correct course and dropbox folder. The file may have been submitted to the wrong dropbox folder, possibly in another course.

  3. If the course and dropbox folder match, check email headers. Instructors should ask the student to show the email header information on their email confirmation message, so that the source of the message can be confirmed.
