UW-Madison is engaged in human subjects research when:

  • Any UW-Madison employee conducts human subjects research;
  • Investigators unaffiliated with UW-Madison use any UW-Madison resource, property or facility to conduct human subject research OR;
  • UW-Madison receives a federal award to conduct human subject research, even if all activities involving human subjects are carried out by a subcontractor or collaborator.
