The document describes how users from campuses other than UW-Madison should proceed to resolve common errors that may occur when trying to login to Learn@UW. If you are a UW-Madison user, refer to Learn@UW - Common Login Errors for UW-Madison.

Internal Server (HTML 500) Error

If you receive an internal server (HTML 500) error early in the morning, see Learn@UW - Possible Problem with Early Morning Logins and Other Functions

Invalid User Name or Password

If you receive the error message
"Invalid User Name / Password. You will be taken back to the login page."
the most probable causes are either you entered an incorrect username or password, or your user account is inactive.
Note that passwords are case-sensitive.
Try logging in again. If you forgot your password or are still unable to login, try logging in again. If you forgot your password or are still unable to login, please contact your campus help desk.

Error Processing Requested Page

If you receive the error message
"There was an error processing the page you requested."
the most probable cause is that you are not enrolled in the organization.
Please contact your campus help desk.

Account is Locked Out

If you receive an error message
"The account you are trying to access has been locked out"
you have attempted to login with an invalid username/password combination several times within a short period of time and your account has been locked.
Wait a few minutes and try to login again.
If you still cannot login, please contact your campus help desk.

JavaScript Related Error Message

If you receive an error message:
"Logging in... If you are reading this your browser does not support JavaScript, or you do not have JavaScript enabled. Please enable JavaScript and try logging in again. "
then your browser has its security level set too high.
To change the security settings:
Internet Explorer:
  1. Go to Tools -> Internet Options, click on the Security tab and change the security level to Medium or possibly Medium-High.
  2. In Tools -> Internet Options, click on the Privacy tab and change the privacy level to Medium.
  3. Ensure that Cookies and JavaScript are enabled.
Firefox:
  1. Go to Tools -> Options.
  2. Click Privacy near the top.
  3. Ensure that "Accept cookies from sites" is checked.
