WiscWeb CMS - Applying a File Name URL To Pages

Once you have created a new webpage you will want to name the URL so users can more easily navigate your site.

Giving a New Page a File Name

New pages will automatically ask for a file name as part of the page creation process. After you enter a headline, you will have the option to give the page a file name.

Giving an Existing Page A File Name

  1. Navigate to your page, and click the red dot next to Open Page in the upper left corner of the screen.

  2. Right click in the page, and select Edit Properties.

  3. In the window that opens, you have the opportunity to update the Headline, and you can also assign a File name. In that field, give the page a file name. Do not use spaces; instead use hyphens. This will help search engines find your site more easily.

    • Remember, the Headline is used to identify the page within the WiscWebCMS project itself, not externally. The File Name: is used to update the name of the page in the URL. It would now display: http://site.wisc.edu/About-Us.htm

  4. Once you have made your changes, click the OK button at the bottom of the screen.
