WISC - Lost or Misplaced Software Installation Keys or Serial Numbers

This document explains the procedure for replacing installation keys or serial numbers for departmentally- or personally-purchased software. The software may have been purchased through the Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog (WISC) or the DoIT Tech Store.

Departmental Purchase

If departmental staff have lost or misplaced the installation keys or serial numbers for their departmentally-purchased software, they can usually recover that information by following the instructions listed below.

  • Microsoft Select
    Send an email to licensing@doit.wisc.edu from a UW or WTCS email address with:
    • The name, version, and edition of the software for which you need the key (e.g. Windows Server 2012R2 Standard Edition).
    • The order number of the order on which the department purchased the software license.
  • Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES)
    Send an email to licensing@doit.wisc.edu from a UW or WTCS email address with:
    • The item number of the media from which you're planning to install the software (printed on the face of the media).
    • The order number of the order on which the department purchased the media.
  • Adobe
    Send an email to licensing@doit.wisc.edu from a UW or WTCS email address stating:
    • The name, version, and edition of the software for which you need the key (e.g. Photoshop CS4 Extended).
    • The order number of the order on which the department purchased the software license.

Personal Purchase

  • Microsoft Office 365 University
    Please email wiscsales@doit.wisc.edu for a resend of your key. Please note that the key we can send you is used once when adding your Office 365 University subscription to your Microsoft account. All other access to installations is provided through your Microsoft account.
  • Adobe Student & Teacher Software
    • If you've lost the product code for your Adobe Student & Teacher Editions downloadable software, please email wiscsales@doit.wisc.edu.
  • Shrinkwrap (boxed) Software
    Your key cannot be recovered by DoIT -- your only option is to contact the publisher (e.g. Adobe, Microsoft, etc.)
