Some end-of-semester "good housekeeping" practices for your D2L course sites regarding copying components, course site availability, and backups.

Copying components to a new course

If you plan on repeating a course or otherwise want to copy components from an existing course into a new one:

Course site end date

By default, all course sites close soon after the end of the semester (date chosen by registrar).  

As an instructor, you have access to change that end date and keep the course active longer than the default time:

This process is often helpful when there are students that need course access in order to finish an incomplete.  

Backups and archives

Making backup copies is always a good idea.  Within D2L there are a number of ways to make offline copies of your course materials.

You can also archive your course structure (or selected components of your course setup) to a zipped file.

NOTE:  Archiving components in this manner only copies the structure of your gradebook, dropbox, discussion board, etc. for future use.  The actual grades, dopbox files, discussion messages, etc. are not copied.  To copy that data, please use the methods above.
