Graduation Requirements

It is the responsibility of the student to make sure that all graduation requirements are met.  Check the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) regularly to ensure that all degree requirements will be completed on time.  For programs in which DARS is the official document of record, a student cannot graduate until the DARS indicates that he/she has met all requirements of the academic program(s).

Students must apply to graduate to complete their program(s).  To apply to graduate through the Office of the Registrar, please visit the following website: As of spring 2014, students should complete the "Apply to Graduate" application in the Student Center (via MyUW).

Commencement Celebrations in the College of Letters & Science

The College of Letters & Science holds a Pre-Commencement Reception for graduates in the College and their families. 

The reception takes place on the day of Commencement before the ceremony.  All Bachelor's candidates who have indicated an intention to graduate in L&S receive an invitation. Standard times are as follows:

Spring Commencement

  • Pre-Commencement Reception: 9:00-11:00 AM in the Wisconsin Fieldhouse
    All Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the College of Letters & Science
    Campus Commencement Ceremony begins at noon in Camp Randall Stadium (candidates must be in their seats on the field by 11:30 AM)
Winter Commencement
  • Pre-Commencement Reception: 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Nicholas Johnson Pavilion at the Kohl Center
    All Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the College of Letters & Science
    Commencement Ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. in the Kohl Center
Individual departments and programs may have celebrations honoring graduates in their field of study. Check with your department or program to find out about any special activities or celebrations related to commencement.
