Bucky Backup - Getting Started

This document explains how to get started with DoIT's Bucky Backup service, Lite or Enterprise, which provides a managed backup for users.

Getting Started with DoIT's Bucky Backup Service

In order to use and administer your Bucky Backup service you may find the following information helpful:

Register for Bucky Backup

Note: You will need billing information (DoIT Number and/or UDDS code) in order to register.

  1. Use the Bucky Backup Registration Form to activate your Bucky Backup service.
  2. The following information will be required:
    • Customer
      • Name
      • Email (can be an email list for a team/dept)
      • Phone Number
    • System Administrator/Technical Contact (can be the same person as the customer)
      • Name
      • Email (can be an email list for a team/dept)
      • Phone Number
    • Billing Information
      • Use one of the following
        • D-number
        • UDDS
      • D-number is preferred for customers outside DoIT
    • Billing Contact (can be the same person as the customer and/or admin)
      • Name
      • Email
      • Phone Number
    • Node Name
      • Note: This must be a unique name (i.e. doit-bucky)
      • Names cannot be reused
    • Type of Node
    • Node Password
  3. The following options are available:
    • Notification of a failed or missed backup
    • Number of versions to retain
    • Backup frequency
    • Option for a free install and configuration of Bucky Backup provided by DoIT
  4. After you click submit:
    • Your Bucky Backup node will be created.
    • You will receive an email within 24 hours that contains your node information.
    • You will receive a second email from a Bucky Backup Administrator that will inform you that your node has been placed in a schedule.
    • Now you will be ready to configure Bucky Backup and run a backup.

Download, Install and Configure the Bucky Backup Client (Lite or Enterprise)

  1. Follow the OS-specific instructions to download, install and configure the Bucky Backup client (Lite or Enterprise):
