D2L - Student Roles (UW-Madison)


UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

The Student Role in D2L can use basic tools, such as Content and Quizzes, and can participate in Discussions. There is also the Student-Long Term Role. This role has the same base functionality as the Student, with some added or subtracted capabilities. Please see below for a more detailed list of their access.

The Student role can:

-View Content, download and print it
-Take Quizzes
-Participate in Discussions
-Access the Grades or Classlist tools
-Submit files to the Dropbox
-Use the IM feature with others in the class
-Capture audio
-Create calendar events
-Submit feedback
-See News
-Access the Locker

The Student-Long Term role additionally:
- Has access to a course beyond the start/end date

Participants who have been assigned any of the "Student" roles will appear in the Classlist tool under the "Student" tab.
