This article highlights the new layout for Moodle v2.8
Exploring your new Moodle Course Layout: getting oriented with Moodle (2.8 new version)
1. The layout of a course homepage revolves around the weeks/topics in the center of the page. The weeks/topics provide space for most of the content in your course.
2. “Blocks,” such as Navigation, Calendar, and Administration, are used to provide special information or links and are located on one or both sides of the weeks/topics. They can be tabbed to the margin of the page to conserve space (second image below).
3. Your course’s full name is displayed at the top left of the page. Below the name is the navigation bar. This feature is like a “breadcrumb trail”. The navigation bar records your steps into the course and provides you with links to return to previous pages.
4. Your login information is displayed at the top right.
1. Before any editing can occur within your course, you must first click the Turn editing on button in the upper right corner of the page.
2. After editing has been turned on, press Edit next to the resource or activity that you would like to change. You then have several options: Edit settings, Move right, Hide, Duplicate, Assign Roles and Delete. (see image below)
3. With editing on, you also have the option to add a resource or activity.
- Resources are non-graded items that are most often used to help to enhance learning in new ways. Some examples of resources include websites, links to outside web pages, or simply the posting of files.
- Activities are interactive items that can be graded or not. Some examples of activities include quizzes, lessons, wikis, and forums.
4. Once you have finished editing your course, make sure to always to click the same button as in step 1, noting that it now says, “Turn editing off.”
