WiscWeb CMS - Site Page Naming

Site Page Naming

There are THREE separate namings at work in the CMS for a page on a web site:

  1. The name of the tab itself on the navigation bar.
  2. The headline of the page object.
  3. The page name.

As pages are added to your site, they are given a sequential number by the CMS system. This number is a reference that is maintained internally with the CMS system to identify the page. Here's the form you see when adding a new page:
new page headline form

Note the form field name is Headline and the value in it is initially provided by the CMS system. You can (and should) change it here to something more descriptive of its use. This 'headline' will be what shows up in navigation menus and will be used for the page's technical title (used for purposes such as bookmarking). This not what is first visible on the site when it is viewed, however. By default, as you see, "New Page" is assisgned:

To modify this visible name:

  1. Click on the navigation bar "New Page" item to select it.
  2. Click on the "Page Info" tab
    select page info tab
  3. You can see in the Menu Label field the default assigned name.
    modify navigation bar name
  4. Click on the Reddot next to General Information and a new form will open. In the Menu Label field type in the name you want this page to show in the Navigation Bar.
    modify navigation bar name form
  5. Click OK to exit the form.
  6. Click on the Page Info tab at the bottom to close the Page Info display.
    close page info tab
  7. You should now see the name you entered above in the Navigation bar:

You can modify the headline (which appears in the CMS system) and page name (shown in a web browser's Address field when a visitor to your site opens a page). To do that, see this KnowledgeBase document: WiscWeb CMS - Applying a File Name URL To Pages .
