Windows 8 - Uninstall a Program

This document provides instructions on how to uninstall a program in Windows 8.

Method 1

  1. To begin, access the Start Screen:

    • Windows 8: Press the Windows Key , or hover the cursor in the bottom-left corner of the screen until a small image of the Start Screen appears, then click on the icon to toggle over to the Start Screen.

    • Windows 8.1: Press the Windows Key , or click on the Start icon in the lower left-hand corner (identical to the Windows Key icon) to open the Start Screen.

  2. Locate the application you would like to uninstall and right click on the icon. A check-mark will appear in the right corner to indicate an application has been selected. Click Uninstall on the toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen.

  3. The Programs and Features window will open. Make sure the correct application is highlighted, then press Uninstall.

Method 2

    1. To begin, access the Start Context Menu:

        • Windows 8: Hover the cursor in the bottom-left corner of the screen until a small image of the Start Screen appears, then right-click on the icon to open the Start Context Menu. Select Programs and Features.

        • Windows 8.1: Right-click on the Start icon in the lower left-hand corner to open the Start Context Menu. Select Programs and Features.

    1. Select an application and click Uninstall to remove it.

After trying the methods listed above, try Microsoft's removal tool to further troubleshoot an application that will not uninstall. (Useful for uninstalling office)
