L&S Inclement Weather Guidelines
The following document covers the UW-Madison Inclement Weather Guidelines.
Key points of the guidelines include:
* Only the Chancellor has the authority to cancel classes, suspend
services, and close the campus to the public and employees.
Individual colleges and schools will not close unless the whole
campus is closed.
* Employees should be advised to use discretion regarding their health
and safety and that of family members, but they are required to use
appropriate leave (i.e., vacation, personal holiday, furlough, etc.)
or arrange to make up time to cover any absences. Unit practices for
employee absences should be followed. Supervisors are advised to be
flexible, if operationally possible, in their approval of
employee-requested leave in inclement weather situations.
Please remember that, while these guidelines are issued each December and tend to be thought of as the university's "ice and snow" policy, inclement weather can happen at any time of year (e.g., buildings with no air conditioning in the middle of summer).
