Office 365 (Windows Phone 8.1 | 8) - Configure Phone

This document explains how to connect to the Office 365 service.

Important: Mobile devices, when configured for your Office 365 account via Exchange/ActiveSync protocol can be remotely wiped. After reading the information within the remote wipe document, if you have decided that you do not want to configure your device using Exchange/Active Sync protocol, you do have the option to connect via IMAP. If connected via IMAP, you will only have access to you email.

Note: These instructions will also work for Windows Phone 7.

Configure Windows Phone for Office 365

  1. From the Home screen, tap the right arrow or swipe to the right

  2. Scroll down and tap Settings.

  3. Tap email + accounts.

  4. Tap add an account.

  5. Tap Outlook.

    • Note: Tap Exchange if using Windows Phone version 8.1
  6. Enter your account credentials:

    • Email Address: -
      • NetID Account: Enter
      • Service Account: Enter
        For multi-level domains,, use the following format:
      • Note: if you don't know whether you are attempting to configuring a NetID account or a Service account, please contact your domain administrator or the DoIT HelpDesk.

    • Password: The designated password for the account you entered above

      Note: If you are configuring a service account, a password is required. If you do not know the password of the service account you are configuring, contact your domain administrator.

  7. Tap sign in.

  8. It will notify you with, "We're looking for your settings." After a few moments, it will return you to the email + account page. Your account will be listed and should be syncing with your account.

    Once the email account is no longer greyed out (syncing), click on the account. One the accounts settings screen, enter a preferred name within the "Account name" field - we recommend 'Office 365'. Make any additional changes and tap the check mark.

  9. Return to your home screen and scroll down to the very bottom. You should see a new square indicating your new email account. Tap on this square/tile to view your email.
