Java - Compatible Versions for UW Services
This document lists Universities of Wisconsin services that require Java SE 8.
Note: entries marked with an asterisk (*) require additional configuration before the application will work properly. See Java - Changing Java Security Settings to Allow UW-Madison Applications for instructions.

Recommend unchecking box requesting "resetting notifications" as it in some cases does not give the dialog needed first time into the system causing a system lock on the user machine. OpenJDK: OpenJDK works, but opens multiple applet windows which might cause confusion with users. Also, if the user accidentally closes the blank applet window, it will kick them out of the system. |

The latest release of Java 8 is available for download from http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. If you have a 64-bit version of Windows (which almost all current releases are) download and run the "Windows Offline (64-bit)" installer. After installing Java, you may need to quit and re-launch your browser for the change to take effect.
Before installing, uninstall Oracle's Java.
To install AdoptOpenJDK 8, go to https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html?variant=openjdk8&jvmVariant=hotspot. Choose version OpenJDK 8 (LTS) and HotSot JVM, then select the Windows x64 platform to download the installer. Double-click to run the installer. Once the AdoptOpenJDK installation is complete, go to https://adoptopenjdk.net/icedtea-web.html to download the IcedTea-Web installer. Double-click to complete the installation.
