Learn@UW - Navigation Bar Drop-Down Controls Do Not Work on Course Homepage

This document explains how to handle the situation when drop-down controls do not work on a course homepage.

If, when clicking on a drop-down control in the navigation bar, a menu does not appear, there is likely a problematic News item.  News items that contain javascript code or unusual coding as a result of copying text from other applications into the News item could cause the problem.

This is a known issue.

If the problem occurs, typically the drop-down controls work within other course tools in the course (such as Content, Discussions, or Grades), but are unresponsive on the course home page.

Dismissing, deleting, or editing the News item to remove the javascript code or problematic coding will likely resolve the problem.

If it does not, ask for assistance. If you are at UW-Madison, please contact the DoIT Help Desk. Otherwise, contact your campus help desk.
