What does the Tech Store sell for Departmental Purchase?
DoIT sells Apple and Dell computers to UW-Madison departments. Faculty, staff, and students are eligible to purchase items personally, see: What does the Tech Store sell for Personal Purchase? to find out how to purchase personally.
Apple computers can either be purchased as standard models through the Tech Store or as custom builds through the Apple Custom Builds site. Departments can purchase Dell computers through the Materials Distribution Services (MDS).
All UW-System departments are eligible to purchase software and reference manuals from DoIT (SPSS, SAS, and SYSTAT are limited to UW-Madison purchasers only). If you are looking to purchase and are from a department not associated with the UW-Madison campus, you would want to order through the WISC (Wisconsin Integrated Software Catalog) site. If you are a department associated with the UW-Madison campus you can either purchase through WISC or the Departmental Store.

Ways to Purchase
Departments may purchase software, hardware, computers, and peripherals by DoIT Number, Departmental check or procurement card. There are three ways in which a UW-Madison department can purchase: online (through the Tech Store or WISC site), over the phone, or in store.
Returns and Exchanges
Hardware, Peripherals, Apple Computers and Dell Computers Purchased through the Tech Store
Most items sold over the counter may be returned for a full refund or exchange within 30 days of purchase (cables, mice, iPod accessories, etc.). Standard Apple and Dell computers, tablets, and iPads purchased directly from the Tech Store that have been opened and used may be assessed a restocking fee. Opened and used service parts (RAM memory, internal hard drives, etc.) may also be assessed a restocking fee. Defective or Dead On Arrival products may require verification by management or the DoIT Help Desk.
DoIT will accept returns within 30 days of purchase on any retail packaged software, if the shrink-wrap is unbroken and the package is unopened. Any software that has been opened, WISC software titles and software distributed via download are final sale, and cannot be returned. Damaged or defective software can be exchanged when returned with its original packaging, receipt, and verification by the DoIT Help Desk.
