Office 365 (Outlook 2013) - Cancel one meeting in a recurring series

Important: By February 2017, Microsoft will no longer push any updates to Office 2013 suite of applications. Please see the following document for further details: Office 365 - Microsoft Office 2013 path to retirement.

It’s possible to delete one meeting within a recurring series without deleting the entire series. Attendees will be notified the particular meeting is cancelled and the meeting will be removed from everyone’s calendar.

  1. On the Navigation Bar (Navigation Bar: Commands at the bottom of the Outlook window that enable you to quickly navigate to Mail, Calendar, People, and Tasks.), click Calendar.
  2. Click the meeting you want to cancel, but don’t open it.
  3. Click Meeting Series > Cancel Meeting > Cancel Occurrence.

Cancel Occurrence command on the ribbon

  4. Type a message to let the attendees know why the meeting is cancelled. It’s not necessary, but it helps to avoid confusion.
  5. Click Send Cancellation.

Send Cancellation button in a meeting window

Notes:

The meeting, including any meeting agendas, notes, and attachments, is deleted.

Only the meeting organizer—the person who sends a meeting request—can send a meeting update or a cancellation.

To cancel all meetings in a recurring series before the first meeting, see Cancel all meetings in a recurring series. If the meeting series has already begun, see Cancel all future meetings in a series.
