Office 365 (Apple iCal/Calendar) - Options/Preferences

Best Effort Support Only

This document contains instructions on using a non-Microsoft email client, such as Apple Mail or Thunderbird. Microsoft does not recommend these clients for use with Office 365, and there are often significant limitations in client functionality as a result.

Because of this, the DoIT Help Desk is only able to offer best effort support for these clients, and certain issues may require the use of a Microsoft client in order to be resolved. For more information on Office 365 client support, please see: Office 365 - Which clients/protocols will be supported?.

This document explains explains the options/preferences available in Apple iCal (Mac OS 10.5-7) or Calendar (Mac OS 10.8-9-10).

Options/Preferences

iCal/Calendar provides numerous options for various things. Of import for Office 365 users is the following.

  • Select Preferences from the iCal or Calendar menu :
  • On the General tab:
    • Default Calendar: you must set this to one of your Office 365 calendars. If you do not, events you create will not automatically be placed in Office 365. Events not in one of your Office 365 calendars cannot be then taken into account by the calendar server when other people attempt to create meetings with you by viewing your free/busy time.
    • If you use tasks/reminders and you want them put into Office 365, you should also modify Default Reminder List to indicate a Office 365 calendar.
