It is possible to install multiple ImageNow Printers within the Perceptive Content Client.

From an account with Windows administrator permissions, do the following:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, and then click Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click ImageNow Printer, and then click Printer properties.
  3. Rename the printer, giving it a unique name to distinguish it from other ImageNow Printers. For example, the printer may be renamed ImageNow Printer 1, with the goal of naming subsequent printers ImageNow Printer 2, ImageNow Printer 3, and so forth.
  4. Within the [drive]:Files (x86)folder, right-click PNSetup.exe, and then click Run as administrator to install additional instances of the ImageNow Printer. Note: In Content 7.0 and higher, the file is called SetupImageNowPrinter.exe.

The new printer instances must be pointed to an inowprint.ini file with the following procedure.

Warning: The instructions below contain information on editing the Windows Registry. Use extreme caution when making any changes. It is highly recommended you perform a backup of the registry before proceeding. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in data loss and could render your operating system unusable.

  1. Verify the location of the inowprint.ini file, located by default in the [drive]:Files (x86).ini folder. Note: If using ImageNow version 6.7 or lower, the installation folder will be named ImageNow6.
  2. Click the Windows Start button, type regedit in the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter.
  3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEPrinter.
  4. In the right pane, if a Scripting File key is not listed, do the following:
    1. Click Edit, click New, and then click String Value.
    2. In the New Value box, type Scripting File.
    3. Double-click the Scripting File key.
    4. In the Edit String window, in the Value data box, type the path to the inowprint.ini file as noted in step
      Edit String window
  5. Restart the client computer for the changes to take effect.

Note: If the reason for installing additional ImageNow Printers is for portrait/landscape printing, refer to the following article, as more changes will be necessary:

How to configure the ImageNow Printer for landscape and portrait printing

From: https://customer.perceptivesoftware.com/CustomerPortal/CPKnowledge_SupportArticles?id=kA2i000000027OdCAI

There are two methods of configuring the ImageNow printer to print in both landscape and portrait printing. One option disables the orientation setting for the ImageNow printer and will instead use whatever orientation is specified by the application you are printing from. The second option is to create two ImageNow printers and set a specific orientation for both. The advantage of having two printers set up is you can override the orientation specified by the application if needed.

Option 1 - Create one printer

This method uses the application settings to determine the orientation via the applications print menu. To print using this method, do the following:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, go to the [drive]:Files (86x)6folder, and then open the inowprint.ini file in a text editor.
  2. Within the inowprint.ini file, under the [Devmode settings] section, place a semicolon (;) before the Orientation parameter, and then save the file.
    For example:

[Devmode settings] ;Orientation= Resolution=300 Color=1

Note: The ; will comment out the orientation parameter so that the application that is being used to print to the Imagenow printer controls the orientation.

Once the above has been completed, orientation will be defined within the print menu when printing from an application.

Option 2 - Create separate printers for each orientation

This method uses the inowprint.ini file to explicitly define the orientation. Individual printers are configured to use separate inowprint.ini files each with different orientations.

Warning: The instructions below contain information on editing the Windows registry. Use extreme caution when making any changes. It is highly recommended data is backed up before proceeding. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in data loss and could render your operating system unusable.
