Perceptive Content Fundamentals
Documents can be hard-copy or soft-copy on your local computer, or remote computer. From a given source, a scanner for example, you build a Capture Profile that sets the options you want for document indexing, workflow, image processing, mode, and more. You can also build a Capture Profile with other sources, like files or the Perceptive Content Printer.
As you create Capture Profiles, they appear directly on the Capture menu. Manage Capture Profiles from the Capture Profiles dialog box, which is accessible by selecting the Capture drop-down arrow, and then select Manage Capture Profiles.
The design of CaptureNow is to capture anything, at any time. When you build your Capture Profile, you define the Capture source using three options: File, Scanner and Perceptive Content Printer,
File - lets you retrieve documents from a file system. From the Open dialog box, choose the files you want to import. What happens to the objects during the import process depends on the settings in the Capture Profile you are using.
Scanner - load paper (or other items) into the appropriate scanning device. The device captures the items and loads them into Perceptive Content. What happens with objects once they are captured is determined based on various Capture Profile settings.
Perceptive Content Printer - allows you to import a document, such as a Microsoft Word document, into Perceptive Content without having to print and scan it first. You can import the document directly using the Print button inside the software program with which the document was created. Before you can use Perceptive Content Printer, you must create a corresponding capture profile where Perceptive Content Printer is the source. The following procedure walks you through capturing one or more Perceptive Content Printer source documents using default settings in both Single and Batch mode.
As part of creating each CaptureNow Profile, you set a CaptureNow mode. These document capture options aim to provide you with flexibility for getting document pages into Perceptive Content quickly.
- Single - This mode captures documents and immediately indexes them in Perceptive Content by drawing on the properties of a predefined LearnMode Applet. Single mode is suitable for situations where you want to capture and link documents at the time you scan. In single mode, you can scan multiple documents, including duplex, without having to perform batch processing.
- Batch - This mode captures documents, gathers them in groups or batches, and uploads them to the Perceptive Content Server. Processing is based on settings specified in the Capture Profile. During the creation phase of batch processing, Batch mode does not work with an applet like Single mode. It can import documents into Perceptive Content whether or not you specify index keys.
- Package - This mode captures documents and allows for indexing of related data into a set of predefined baskets. Related data means documents share at least one common index value such as Patient ID or Patient Name. Package mode is ideal for use in point-of-registration or walk-up environments where document collectors are required to collect highly structured data in real time and want a way to verify and organize the data based on logical groups and other settings. Package Mode now offers the ability to set up document rules which, in conjunction with Prompted Scanning, assist the user in determining which documents are to be included in Package mode capture.
The purpose of the server side Batch Agent is to process batches that are designated as AUTO PROCESSING. This agent is responsible for auto-indexing of scanned or imported content. These batches are temporarily stored in OSM 3.
The Batch Agent can only process one item at a time and in high batch volume environments occasionally multiple Batch Agents may need to be configured. If a situation occurs where a batch isn't being processed or the batch agent isn't processing any items the log will indicate the problem that prevents the processing.
CaptureNow is a rich feature set in Perceptive Content that lets you scan and import documents from multiple sources into Perceptive Content. At the core of CaptureNow‘s efficiency is the Capture Profile discussed above where users set up and store options for securing quality images and other documents in Perceptive Content. The following table summarizes the functions available with the capture options provided by the Perceptive Content desktop client and the functions that require additional licensing. Image processing is discussed in another KB document.
