Memorial Resolution of the Academic Staff Assembly 
of the University of Wisconsin-Madison

On the death of Dennis M. Carey 
Assistant Director of Recreational Sports

Denny Carey, our friend and colleague, passed away on December 26, 2003 at the age of 49 after a battle with leukemia. Denny is survived by his wife Marlene, daughter Michelle, and son Seth.

Denny’s professional career at UW-Madison began in 1984 when he accepted the position of Director of the Camp Randall Sports Center. Over the years, he assumed many roles at Recreational Sports, completing his career as Director of Programs at the Southeast Recreation Facility. Denny served as a representative to the Academic Staff Assembly for many years.

Throughout his years of service to students, Denny was known for his dedication to UW-Madison students, both to the users of the service he provided as well as those students he employed. He was a great mentor and friend, quick to laugh, and always willing to provide fatherly care and advice to those in need.

In his personal life Denny was dedicated to his family and friends. He served his church in many capacities and was integral in the development of the Care Team Ministry. His boisterous attitude, positive affirmations, and love he gave to his family and friends will always endure.
