Learn@UW - Obtaining the Final Grades for Students in a Course

In order to obtain the correct final grades for students, it is necessary for both the updated calculated final grades and the adjusted final grades to have been calculated.

  1. In the Grades tool, select Manage Grades near the top.

  2. In the list of grade items, select Enter Grades from the drop-down by "Calculated Final Grade" near the bottom.

  3. In the "Final Grades", check to see if any calculated final grades are not up to date. These will be indicated by "Recalculate Calculated Final Grade" icons ( Calculator ) by individual grades.

    If all calculated final grades are up to date, skip ahead to step 7 to calculate the adjusted final grades. Otherwise, proceed below to recalculate the calculated final grades.

  4. Select Recalculate All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top.

    This will bring up a "Recalculate All" dialog.

    Note: If you instead see a dialog to calculate the adjusted final grades, the option to "automatically keep final grades updated" has been set for the course and calculated final grades are already up to date. Skip ahead to Step 7 below.

  5. Select Calculated Final Grade and press the Calculate button.

  6. In the "Grade Items included in Calculated Final Grade" dialog, press the Calculate button near the bottom.

  7. To calculate the adjusted final grades, do either of the following:

    • To include all grade items in the adjusted final grades, do Steps 8 and 9 below.
    • To selectively choose which grade items are to be included in the adjusted final grades, do Steps 10 through 13 below.

  8. Select Transfer All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top.

  9. In the Confirmation dialog brought up, respond Yes.

  10. Select Recalculate All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top.

  11. If the option to "automatically keep final grades updated" has been set for the course, skip ahead to Step 12. Otherwise, in the "Recalculate All" dialog select Adjusted Final Grade and press the Calculate button.

  12. In the "Grade Items included in Adjusted Final Grade" dialog, select the grade items to be included in the adjusted final grade and press the Calculate button near the bottom.

  13. In the Confirmation dialog brought up, respond Yes.
