Outlook 2013 - Exporting Local Folders

Important: By February 2017, Microsoft will no longer push any updates to Office 2013 suite of applications. Please see the following document for further details: Office 365 - Microsoft Office 2013 path to retirement.

This document will provide step-by-step instructions on how to export local folders from Outlook 2013.

  1. Open Outlook 2013.

  2. Select File.

    Click the File button

  3. Click on Open/Export, then select Import/Export.

  4. In the Import and Export Wizard screen, select Export to a file, the click on Next.

  5. In the Export to a File window select a file type, then select Next.

    • Comma Separated Values: Select this option if you are exporting this file to an email client that is not Outlook. To proceed, please skip to Step 8.
      • Note: .CSV files exports are made up of text only and will not copy attachments.
    • Outlook Data File (.pst): Select this option if you are exporting this file to Outlook. Proceed to Step 6.

  6. PST: Select a local folder to export. In this example, local folders are stored under Personal Folders. Click the check box next to Include subfolders, then click on Next.

  7. PST: Select Browse to specify a name and location for saving the .PST file, then click on OK. To ensure data is not lost, select Allow duplicate items to be created. Click on Finish to save the file.

  8. CSV: Only one local folder can be selected at a time. If there are multiple local folders this process will need to be repeated for each folder. Select a local folder, then click on Next.

  9. CSV: Select Browse to specify a name and location for saving the .CSV file, then click on Next.

  10. If custom fields need to be mapped, select the Map Custom Fields button. Otherwise, click on Finish to save the file.

You now have a copy of the selected Outlook 2013 local folder.
