Communications Committee Minutes 5-7-10

Academic Staff Communications Committee Meeting

May 7, 2010

9:30am - 11:00am

Room 302 Teacher Education

Agenda

1.) March 5 minutes approved without changes

2.) No significant web changes since 3/5/10 meeting. Don has edited about half the existing pages. Waiting on Donna and/or Heather to give list of pages to be archived.

3.) Reviewed survey; observations:

* difference in knowledge of assembly rep btw. answer to Q2 and Q3.5 and Q5.2

* concern over Q4: did people know that answer 1 was LEAST important and 10 was MOST important.

#6. interesting that email is most popular comm, then newsletter, then web/WiscWeek (tie). We may want to ask how to improve the top 1-3 items in the future. Also split print and e-versions of appropriate categories (ex: WiscWeek). We may want to encourage AS Secretary to sharped the email and newsletter communiques.

#8.Most of those that use the web find it good to excellent, altho a third find it only fair. Need to recalc using only the total respondents who graded, not all respondents.

#9. Can provide additional perspective on answers to #4.

We need to get the open-ended responses compiled somehow so we can understand what's most popular or needed. Brian will check in to analysis software.

Comment about how ASA meetings are set. Are people missing the meeting due to conflicts?

Concern expressed over the UW suggestion to use furlough days to do community service. People are stressed; overworked and receiving less pay than anticipated (rescinded raises and reductions).

Greg will ask Donna to send a follow-up reminder to complete the survey.

Suggestion that we move the Contact Us link up near the top of the AS home page.

4.) Communications Plan Update/Discussion. Projects to still pursue/Video? Other items?

The Communications Plan is listed at:
