SIS - Developers Client Cache Problem and Purging the Cache

This document explains how to purge the SIS Client Cache on a Windows System. If you see an error using the SIS client while not using the Application Server (aka 2-tier)(connection type = oracle), you can often resolve the error by clearing the cache.

SYMPTOM

You are receiving any ISDEV, ISTST or SIS errors such as those listed below while being connected to one of these databases via the 2-tier client, the cache may be corrupted on your PC and need to be cleared.

  1. Random errors that may not be repeatable.
  2. Windows Illegal Operation errors when trying to perform a Peoplesoft function.
  3. Inconsistent usage problems after a SIS maintenance.
  4. Buffer or Serialization errors.

SOLUTION

These solutions only apply if you are connected to ISDEV, ISTST or SIS using the client software in 2-tier mode. This means when you start up PeopleTools client, you see Connection Type = Oracle. If you are logged into any of the SIS databases using the Application Server (3-tier) or any WEB browser, then these solutions do not apply. In that case, escalate to the 0-ISIS-Infrastructure queue.

There are 2 ways to clear/purge the cache from your SIS client:

NOTE: Users must be logged off SIS client for any of these options to be effective.

Option 1:

  1. Close the SIS client software.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Select Programs
  4. Select PeopleSoft
  5. Select Utilities
  6. Click on Clear Your Cache

Option 2:

  1. Close the SIS client software on all databases.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Select Programs
  4. Select PeopleSoft
  5. Select Configuration Manager
  6. Go to Common tab
  7. Click on Purge Cache Directories
  8. Click on Delete All
  9. Close Configuration Manager

Option 3:

  1. Close the SIS client software.
  2. Click on Start.
  3. Select Programs
  4. Select PeopleSoft
  5. Select Configuration Manager
  6. Go to Common tab
  7. Note the cache files directory path
  8. Using Windows Explorer, manually delete all files in the cache files directory

Note: option 3 will remove corrupt or locked cache files that the other 2 options may skip over.

After clearing your PC cache directories, the SIS client startup may be a bit slower in 2-tier mode the first few times as the cache is re-generated.
