WiscWeb CMS - Page is Being Edited by Another User (or You)

Attempting to edit a page in the CMS will sometimes show that the page is being edited by another user or even yourself. This document will help you troubleshoot the issue so that you can continue working on the page.

Document being edited by you

If the document is being edited by you, it likely means you are logged into the CMS multiple times. To resolve this, click on Settings in the upper-right hand corner. You should see an option for Terminate Sessions.

Click on Terminate Sessions. A listing of all of your current log-ons will be listed. All sessions with a Log Off option are additional sessions that are still open. Click Log Off for each of those sessions and that should allow you to continue working on the page.

Page being edited by someone else

If the page is being edited by someone else, you can use the Assign User feature in SmartTree to change the editor. This option only exists if the user has not updated the page in the last hour. The reason for the hour wait is to prevent users from using the Assign User feature while the other user is actively editing the the page.

To use the Assign User feature, find the page in SmartTree. You can do this by having the page selected in SmartEdit, and the clicking on SmartTree. The page you were on will be preserved and appear in SmarTree. With the page selected, use the Action Menu on the right to find Assign User and click on it. Search for yourself and assign yourself as the last editor, and this should allow you to edit the page.
