Office 365 - What is the Difference Between UW-Madison's Scheduling Assistant and Outlook's Scheduling Assistant?

This document will explain the difference between the UW-Madison Scheduling Assistant application and the built-in Scheduling Assistant feature in Outlook and Outlook on the web.

UW-Madison Scheduling Assistant application

The Scheduling Assistant application allows users to more easily create pre-defined blocks of availability during which other users can easily schedule meetings. This service enhances the appointment creation functions of WiscCal and Office 365. There are two types of people (accounts) that use the Scheduling Assistant: Schedule Owners and Schedule Visitors. Anyone who is eligible for WiscCal or Office 365 can use these features. Many UW-Madison Academic Advisors are Schedule Owners, and this service automatically can link up UW-Madison students with their assigned advisors. Scheduling Assistant also allows for the creation of a Public Profile. Public Profiles are publicly searchable, and would allow anyone the ability to schedule an appointment with you. This may be useful if you may want to share your schedule with others that may not have a strong affiliation with you. Another feature of Scheduling Assistant is the ability to create specific relationships with individuals. Relationships can be created by the schedule owner for specific individuals, created by instructors for their students, or they can be generated for advisors to more quickly connect with their advisees. When scheduling an appointment, the first screen you see not only provides the names of people that have authorized you to view their schedule, it provides a customized description of your relationship to that person. Scheduling Assistant feature in Outlook and Outlook on the web

The Scheduling Assistant feature in Outlook and Outlook on the web is very similar in function to WiscCal's Check Availability. When you create a new event and wish to add attendees and/or a Resource calendar, you can use Outlook's Scheduling Assistant feature to verify if any conflicts exist in their schedules. As you add attendees and a location, their calendar information will appear in the calendar grid displayed. The Scheduling Assistant will then help you determine when all participants are available for a meeting.
