Notes:

This query provides counts for the degrees earned in the selected terms for the selected programs/plans. Averages are based on the total population selected. Any terms prior to the Summer of 1985 are not included in the enrollment/time to degree counts so some older awards may have incorrect data listed.

Average Time to Degree is calculated in three different ways

1. Enrolled Years to Degree (Based on number of fall and spring terms divided by 2)

a. This version should be used if you're interested in how many academic years a students was enrolled. It counts fall and spring terms as a half of a year and summer is not factored in at all. This version would probably be the most useful for perspective students wanting to figure out how long it will take them to graduate if they don't take time off.

b. Example: Bucky Badger was enrolled in the following terms: Fall, 2010 Spring, 2011 Spring, 2012 Summer, 2012 Fall, 2012 Spring, 2013 - earned degree Enrolled Years to Degree = 2.5

2. Years Elapsed (Based on months elapsed between begin date of first term enrolled and end date of completion term)

a. This version should be used if you're interested in how long it takes students to graduate, including any time they may have taken off. This version is based on actual dates from first enrollment to the end of their award completion term.

b. Example: Bucky Badger was enrolled in the following terms: Fall, 2010 (began 8/23/10) Spring, 2011 Spring, 2012 Summer, 2012 Fall, 2012 Spring, 2013 - earned degree (ended 5/19/13) Elapsed Years to Degree = 2.74

3. Enrolled Years to Degree (Based on number of months enrolled)

a. This version is an enrolled time to degree based on the begin and end dates of every term in which the student was enrolled, including summer. It will give the actual amount of time a student was enrolled but it could look misleading for students who didn't enroll in summer term because 1 academic year would only equal .75 years (9 months) in this calculation.

b. Example: Bucky Badger was enrolled in the following terms: Fall, 2010 (began 8/23/10, ended 12/24/10, =0.34 years) Spring, 2011 (12/25/10 - 5/15/11, = 0.39 years) Spring, 2012 (12/25/11 - 5/20/12, = 0.40 years) Summer, 2012 (05/21/12 - 8/26/12, =0.26 years) Fall, 2012 (8/27/12 - 12/23/12, = 0.32 years) Spring, 2013 - earned degree (12/24/12 - 5/19/13, =0.40 years) Enrolled Years to Degree = 2.11

The "Targeted Minority" field is used to define students who are targeted minorities for campus diversity initiatives and programs. A student (or applicant) who is a US Citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or domestic-status pending, AND who is Black, Hispanic, American Indian or Southeast Asian (of Laotian, Cambodian, or Vietnamese heritage and came to the US prior to the end of the Vietnam war or is descended from such a person) are considered targeted minorities.
