D2L - Classlist Tool vs "Wisclist Classlist" (UW-Madison)
UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.
This document describes the difference between the classlist tool in D2L and the University Classlist service.
The D2L Course management system includes a tool named the Classlist which is used to view enrollment in a D2L course, to access user-specific tools such as the locker, and to access the D2L-specific e-mail tools. While there are e-mail features to the D2L classlist, it is recommended that instructors use the Wisclist Classlist for classwide e-mail purposes.
The University of Wisconsin, Madison also offers an e-mail list service which is called the Wisclist Classlist. This is the method that instructors typically use for classwide e-mails. For more information about the Wisclist Classlist, please see this link.
To e-mail a timetable course, use the Wisclist Classlist (https://admin.lists.wisc.edu/), and click Classlist.
To administer participants and groups in D2L, use the D2L classlist (http://learnuw.wisc.edu/), which looks like this:
