Learn@UW - Setting Start Dates and End Dates in Discussion Forums and Topics

Discussion forums and topics can have a Start Date and/or an End Date set to control student access to the forums and topics. A student cannot access a forum or topic with a future Start Date or a past End Date.

To set a Start Date and/or an End Date for a Discussion forum or topic, do the following:

  1. Select the Discussions tool.

  2. Select Discussions List near the top not already selected.

  3. Make sure the topics are displayed. If not, click the "Show All Topics" link.

  5. Select Edit Forum or Edit Topic from the drop-down by the forum or topic to edit the properties.

  6. Under "Availibility" on the Properties tabbed page, click "Show forum visibility options" or "Show topic visibility options" if necessary to display these options.

  7. Select the "Forum is visible for a specific date range" or "Topic is visible for a specific date range" radio button.

  8. To set a Start Date, check the box by "Has Start Date" and set a date and time.

  9. To set an End Date, check the box by "Has End Date" and set a date and time.

  10. Press the Save or Save and Close button.
