Learn@UW - Copying Groups from Another Course May Fail to Copy All the Groups Within Certain Group Types

If you use "Copy Components" to copy groups from another course, group types are copied but some or all of the groups within these types may not be copied.

For example, if you use the "Groups of #" (for maximum number of users per group) and "# of Groups" (for maximum number of groups) Group types, this does not automatically create the same groups as in the original course.

This may affect re-offered courses after copying components from the original course. For example, groups won't display under Self-enrollment Group Types in the re-offered course until after a Student self-enrolls.

This is expected behavior.  Note that groups have to be recreated whenever you have a different enrollment in the new course offering than in the original course offering.
