Learn@UW - Making Final Grades Available for Students to View

This document describes how to make final grades available to students, depending upon what final grades you want your students to see. You can make either the Updated Final Grades or the Adjusted Final Grades available to students.

Updated Final Grades

If you want your students to always be able to view their up-to-date final grades to indicate how they are performing so far, the following tasks need to be done:

Make the up-to-date calculated final grades visible to students.

  1. Login to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select "Settings" by an icon resembling a gear ( gear ) near the upper right corner.

  4. Select the "Calculations Options" tab near the top.

  5. Under "Final Grade Released", select Calculated Final Grade.

  6. Under "Grade Calculations", check the box by Automatically keep final grades updated.

  7. Until all items should be graded, make sure Drop ungraded items is selected. If Treat ungraded items as 0 is selected, all ungraded items will be included with a grade of zero in the calculated final grades.

    Steps 5-8

  8. Press the Save button.

Release the Final Grades

  1. Log on to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select Manage Grades near the top.

  4. In the list of grade items, select Enter Grades from the drop-down by "Calculated Final Grade" near the bottom.

  5. Select Release All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top. All calculated final grades will be released.

  6. Release All

Make sure the final grades are viewable to instructors.

  1. Login to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select Manage Grades near the top.

  4. Click "Calculated Final Grade" near the bottom.

  5. Select the "Show Display Options" link, if necessary, to make the display options appear.

  6. If "Override display options for this item" is selected, make sure some of the other boxes are selected to display the points (or weight), grade scheme symbol, or grade scheme color.

  7. Press the Save and Close button near the bottom.

Adjusted Final Grades

If you want your students to be able to view their adjusted final grades, the following tasks need to be done:

Make the adjusted final grades visible to students.

  1. Log on to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select "Settings" by an icon resembling a gear ( gear ) near the upper right corner.

  4. Select the Calculations Options tab near the top.

  5. Under "Final Grade Released", select Adjusted Final Grade.

  6. If you wish to keep the calculated final grades up to date, under "Grade Calculations", check the box by Automatically keep final grades updated.

  7. Until all items should be graded, make sure Drop ungraded items is selected. If Treat ungraded items as 0 is selected, all ungraded items will be included with a grade of zero in the calculated final grades.

    Steps 5-8

  8. Press the Save button.

When you want to release the adjusted final grades:

  1. Login to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select Manage Grades near the top.

  4. In the list of grade items, select Enter Grades from the drop-down by "Adjusted Final Grade" near the bottom.

  5. If you did NOT check Automatically keep final grades updated in the "Calculations Options", you need to select Recalculate All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top in order to calculate the up-to-date calculated final grades.

  6. Select Transfer All from the drop-down by "Final Grades"  near the top to transfer all calculated final grades to adjusted final grades.

  7. Select Release All from the drop-down by "Final Grades" near the top to release all adjusted grades.

    Recalculate and Release

Make sure the final grades are viewable to instructors.

  1. Login to the Learn@UW application and go to your course.

  2. Select the Grades tool.

  3. Select Manage Grades from near the top.

  4. Select  "Adjusted Final Grade" near the bottom.

  5. Select the "Show Display Options" link, if necessary, to make the display options appear.
