Office 365 - Features available for linked accounts

It is possible to link a NetID and a service account in Office 365. Having your NetID account linked to a service account provides several benefits if you use the service account or manage it. The benefits of linking an account will be addressed below.

Features available for Linked Accounts

Once you have linked your NetID to your service account, you will be provided 'full mailbox permissions' to the account. This allows you to access and manage service accounts in the following ways:

  1. Access service account via linked account login page.
  2. Access service account via Outlook on the web's 'Open Mailbox' feature
  3. Access service account via local desktop client
  4. Choose service account primary address
  5. Change GAL search status
  6. Modify service account permissions
  7. Access service account Google Apps

Access service account via linked account login page.

When logging into Outlook on the web, you first enter in your NetID credentials and once you have submitted them, you are shown a screen with options for which account to log into. You can use this login screen to login to the service account(s) you are linked to.For more information and for steps, please refer to our documentation here.

Access service account via Outlook on the web's 'Open Mailbox' feature

Within Outlook on the web, there is a feature that allows you to open the mailbox of another account, appropriately referred to as the 'open mailbox' feature. This is a way you can access your service account as well as your NetID account within the web client at the same time. You can find steps on how to do this here.

Access service account via local desktop client

When you are linked to a service account, that service account will be automatically configured in your Outlook 2013/2010 clients. Within an hour of linking the service account to your NetID, you should see the service account appear in the left-hand column of folders and mailboxes.

Choose service account primary address

Being linked to a service account gives your NetID the ability to access the account within the Wisc Account Administration website. To access your service account within the Wisc Account Administration site, simply login and select the 'delegated administration' tab in the top-middle of the page. On the following screen, you should see the accounts to which you are linked (and any domains or accounts which you have delegated administrative access to) listed there. Please left-click on the account.

Once you're accessing the account in the Wisc Account Administration website, please follow the instructions for choosing a primary address here.

Change Global Address List search status

Being linked to a service account gives your NetID the ability to access the account within the Wisc Account Administration website. To access your service account within the Wisc Account Administration site, simply login and select the 'delegated administration' tab in the top-middle of the page. On the following screen, you should see the accounts to which you are linked (and any domains or accounts which you have delegated administrative access to) listed there. Please left-click on the account.

Once you're accessing the account in the Wisc Account Administration website, please follow the instructions for choosing changing your Global Address List search status here.

Modify service account permissions

Being linked to a service account gives your NetID the ability to access the account within the Wisc Account Administration website. To access your service account within the Wisc Account Administration site, simply login and select the 'delegated administration' tab in the top-middle of the page. On the following screen, you should see the accounts to which you are linked (and any domains or accounts which you have delegated administrative access to) listed there. Please left-click on the account.

Access service account Google Apps
