DoIT offers the following FREE software services to students, faculty, and staff.
Please note that these services are for personal computers only; departmentally-owned computers are not eligible for free software support.
Most software support can be done at the walk-in service desk. However, for formatting drives, reinstalling operating systems, and more time-consuming troubleshooting your device may be checked into DoIT Repair.
Virus and Malware Removal
We are able to remove most types of viruses, malware, spyware, and unwanted programs from Apple OSX, Microsoft Windows, and Linux operating systems. Generally, this will not affect the computer's other programs or user data. However, in the case of more severe infections, we may be required to erase all personal data from the computer and reinstall the operating system. In this case, we will contact you prior to the erasing of your data and provide options for data backup.
General Software Repair
Blue screen error codes, kernel panics, program errors, missing drivers, and other software issues are generally easy to repair. Although in some cases, we may need to erase everything and reinstall the operating system to resolve the issue(s), but we will contact you first to ensure that you have your important data backed up.
Operating System Reinstallation
Is your computer running slowly and experiencing many different issues? Sometimes the best course of action is to get rid of everything and start fresh. We can help by erasing your computer's hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. Prior to erasing the drive, our Service Desk agents can help you back up any data that you'd like to keep.
New Computer Data Transfer
If you purchase a new computer from the Tech Store and your old computer is still functional, we can migrate your documents, music, pictures, and other data from the old computer onto the new computer. Please note that, in most cases, we cannot transfer programs or applications; for example, you will need to reinstall things like Microsoft Office, Adobe software, Chrome, Firefox, Skype, and others. We will make every attempt to transfer your data within 24 hours of receiving your computers.
