Learn@UW (UW-Madison Only) - Master KB: Communication Tools for Instructors

There are a number of tools you can use to communicate with your students through your D2L course. Browse below to learn more about these tools.

  • Emailing through D2L and Wisclist
    • There are two ways to mass e-mail your class, through the Classlist tool within D2L and through the classlist function in Wisclist.  Here are the pros and cons of each.

How to e-mail your class with D2L's Classlist tool.

  • Communicating with Students through Calendar, News Widget, Web Conferencing and Google Hangouts
    • You can use the Calendar to communicate important course information to your students.  Here's how to create events.

Posting News items to your course website is another effective way to communicate with students.

You can also set up web conferences to facilitate online communication outside of class and office hours with Blackboard Collaborate.

Finally, UW-Madison recently enabled Google+ as part of the campus-wide Google apps.  Once you set up a Google+ account you can use the "hangout" video conference feature of Collaborate to meet with your students.
